World of aluminium structures

Down the years, Starrag has established itself as a proven partner for the aerospace industry. In 1998 the challenge was the development of a machine tool concept to achieve the lowest cost per part. This resulted in the innovative and highly efficient Ecospeed machine series.

This technology partnership includes everything from customer specific engineering to application development including CAM programming, tool and fixture design and automation.

Since market introduction in 1999, the parallel kinematic Sprint Z3 machining head technology has been successfully adapted to a modular range of machines covering component sizes from less than 1 m up to 8 m in length. Many of the world's leading aerospace manufacturers have selected Ecospeed series machining centres for the production of a wide variety of different components.

Spindle

Starrag offers comprehensive spindle know-how and for many years has successfully delivered more than 2000 units to the market. As a customer you benefit from unmatched productivity thanks to highest MRR with real 120 kW spindle.

For hard to cut materials Starrag gear spindles achieve higher material removal rates through

  • Superior stiffness with short and sturdy spindles shafts
  • Superior collision contour through compact built up means shorter tools lengths
  • Superior torque characteristic adjusted for hard metal machining

Sprint Z3

The Ecospeed series offers the most advanced technology in parallel kinematics that will ensure future competitiveness for your business.

Reliability and performance achieved by Ecospeed technology has been continuously improved over the years.

Sprint Z3 and its parallel kinematic concept: Three parallel linear axis drives are mounted radially equispaced in a barrel-shaped headstock. The spindle platform is connected to each drive by means of rigid levers with a simple pivot at one end, and a ball joint at the other end. A high performance motor spindle is mounted to the spindle platform.

Highlights of Sprint Z3

When all three axes are moved equally and simultaneously, the spindle is moved in a straight line in Z-direction.

If the three axes move differentially, the spindle platform will be tilted in the A/B kinematic. Synchronised motion of the three Z-axes allows the spindle to describe any path within a spherical cone of ± 45 degrees.

Features

The Ecospeed series offers the most advanced technology for machining aluminium aerostructure parts that will ensure future competitiveness for your business. Reliability and performance achieved by Ecospeed technology has been continuously improved over the years.

Excellent acessibility

Two systems are available for integrating angular milling and drilling heads into the machine to expand the range of machining possibilities.

Angle milling heads

Highlights:

Compact collision contour
continuous 6-axis machining ± 135°
Access to all difficult-to-reach areas > only 60 mm

Cell controller

A well proven, specifically developed and often implemented software solution. Serves to automatically control flexible manufacturing cells with one or more machining centres, an automatic pallet transport system, any number of pallet buffer stations and component load/unload stations as well as non-cutting process stations.

Flexible manufacturing systems

In addition to single, stand-alone machine installations, all Ecospeed models lend themselves for integration into Flexible Manufacturing System cells, thereby enabling the customer to achieve even higher levels of productivity. Such systems enable the customer to optimise material flow through his production plant - from raw billets or forgings, through work-in-progress to finished parts and chip handling. Any number of machines can be integrated into the cell, depending on floor space availability and other constraints. Different solutions are available for the different machine configurations.
