Senior Application Engineer

Starrag USA Inc., headquartered in Hebron, KY, has multiple openings available for a Senior Application Engineer. Domestic travel required 50% of time to customer facilities. 1-2 international trips per year to customer facilities or Starrag factories.
The Senior Application Engineer (SAE) will support the U.S. Starrag application technology team by developing new machining strategies on Starrag 5-axis machining systems for U.S. customers. Further to ensure that customers receive a satisfied and efficient machining solution for their special needs. The SAE will be responsible for LX, NB, STC, Ecospeed and Heckert products. In addition the SAE will be the primary person responsible for the LX products including the RCS CAM Software and aero engine turbine blade machining processes. This includes conducting RCS CAM Software training and product management of the Software. The SAE will be the primary person responsible for adaptive machining and repair technology of aero engine blades.

- CAM programming for 5-axis machines: Selecting the cutting tool, creating the tool path from a 3D model feature, selecting the cutting strategy, calculating the speed and feed of the tool, simulating the part being virtually cut, and adjusting the post processor that generates the ISO code;
- Design of tool concepts: Define and test cutting tools in collaboration with internal tool development team and external suppliers;
- Optimize existing machining processes: Analyze customers’ current process, develop plan for optimization, and implement new processes for customers;
- Develop customer projects in the field of HSC/HPC machining: Oversee machining solutions and process implementation from start to finish including ensuring that tools, devices and machining strategies work together successfully;
- Solutions for customer specific requirements and problems: Check feasibility for customer application-specific requirements and implement. Analyze and resolve issues regarding cutting tools, programs, CAM or Fixtures. Whether it’s remotely or at customer site;
- Development and testing of new machining tools and technologies: Support development and test new or improved machines, new tools, machining strategies or CAM versions;
- Collaboration in the development and testing of automation solutions: Analyze customer specific components regarding automation solutions. Collaborate with Control Engineering and Design department to develop and implement automation concepts;
- Operator training on 5-axis machines: Conduct standard operator training, customer-specific and component-specific training on Starrag 5-axis machines;
- Programming training for 5-axis machines: Conduct programming training including machine-specific cycles, G and M codes, machine kinematics and probing cycles. Conduct standard-,advanced and customer specific training in the RCS CAM software;
- Carrying out customer-specific machine acceptance tests: Program and machine Standard or customer specific machine acceptance parts;
- Preparation of project documentation: Prepare and supply documentation for all application-related matters (e.g. protocols and instruction papers);
- Support sales team: Prepare time studies and feasibility studies. Support in machine quotations (ensure correct machine configuration). Support sales at customer visits; and
- Customer test cuts: Carry out test cuts to demonstrate machine performance and capability to machine in required time and quality
That’s what you bring with you
- Proven experience in sales and business development within the medical tech-nology or related industries
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology or related field (foreign equiv. degree accepted). In lieu of Bachelor's degree, will accept education equivalency in the required fields of study that is based on a single foreign degree or any combination of degrees, diplomas, or work experience determined to be equivalent by a qualified evaluation service.
- 2 years of experience as an Application Engineer focused on aerospace components.
- 2 years of experience in each of the following: On 5-axis machining centers; On 5-axis blade specific machining centers; In the adaptive machining process; an In blade profile geometry manipulation
- Experience may be gained concurrently.
